West Cornwall Community Renewables Ltd (WCCR)
With an initial grant awarded by Energyfund Cornwall, West Cornwall Community Renewables (WCCR) began setting up a solar PV project (rent a roof scheme) in their local area, and developing other local community energy projects.
Although the group struggled to get a domestic ‘rent a roof’ scheme off the ground, having the Energyfund Cornwall grant allowed them to fund a part-time post to continue to establish WCCR and attract over £21,000 additional funding.
This included grant funding to run two Green Open Homes events, a Community Energy Saving Competition grant from DECC; and a Big Energy Saving Network project grant.
Despite working with solicitors on draft leases and producing launch publicity materials, the changing of Government policy regarding renewable technologies and proposed cut in FIT rates has meant that WCCR has had to put their PV RAR scheme on hold and concentrate on installing solar PV on community buildings.
Focusing on St Pirans Hall in Goldsithney initially, the group has had an EPC produced for the building and applied for FITs ‘pre-accreditation’.
The group have already been awarded a grant by Naturesave Trust, are in discussions with the Low Carbon Fund regarding a loan and investigating a Community Share Issue, in addition to researching other potential grants and donations.
