M&S Energy Community Energy Fund

M&S Energy decided they wanted to support hard working community energy projects across the UK, so they teamed up with energyshare to deliver the M&S Energy Community Energy Fund.

With over 600 registrations of interest and 246 projects submitting applications, M&S Energy were delighted to be able to shortlist 132 split between 19 regions, each with a prize of up to £12,500 for their renewable energy installation, as well as a £20,000 and a £40,000 national prize.

After six weeks of tireless campaigning in their local community and M&S stores throughout the UK, the winners were announced, with projects spanning from the Isle of Lewis in Scotland to Hayle in South Cornwall.

M&S Energy also awarded discretionary funding to 5 projects who did not come top of their leader board, but showed inspiration and innovation. Runners-up were whittled down to 17 projects and presented to a board of judges to pick a final 5. Judges met at River Cottage HQ in Axminster, where the panel undertook the difficult task of choosing the winners.

Jonathan Hazeldine, Head of M&S Energy said: “We were absolutely delighted with the number of entries we received for the M&S Energy Community Energy Fund and it was brilliant to see communities coming together in support of renewable energy projects in their area – we received over 51,000 votes in total. We have a very worthy list of 26 winners from a whole range of projects which all exemplify the innovative approach communities across the UK are taking to generating their own energy.”

energyshare’s Mark Holmes said “It was great to see M&S Energy lead by example and provide this much needed funding for such amazing community project. We were privileged to be able to work with and support such a fantastic group of projects from across the UK and I firmly believe that by utilising the support and profile created through the M&S Energy Community Energy Fund many of the runners up will go on to raise the funds needed to make their projects a reality.”
