CORE 2014: Local Authority Geothermal Conference
energyshare worked with Cornwall Council and the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership to lead the UK’s first deep geothermal local authority conference, bringing together the leading authorities from across the UK and Europe for CORE 2014.
The groundbreaking event was chaired by the BBC’s Professor Iain Stewart, best known for his BAFTA nominated series ‘Earth – The Power of the Planet’ and brought together speakers from across the public and private sector to share their experience and help move geothermal energy forward in the UK.
With sponsorship secured from Strada Energy (UK), CORE 2014 was held at the Eden Project and drew delegates from across Europe to Cornwall, the first region of the UK to approve planning permission for two separate deep geothermal sites.
Presenters included high profile speakers from the public sector such as DECC, BIS, Ofgem and the Environment Agency as well as industry experts Parsons Brinckerhoff, Brit Geothermal, Geoengineering Limited and EGS Energy.
The day was structured to give local authorities the opportunity to share best practice, develop a better understanding of the benefits that geothermal energy can bring and help them progress their own geothermal opportunities and developments.
The event was a huge success including a tweet from the Icelandic Embassy, who have already harnessed the power of geothermal energy, and clearly demonstrated the exciting times ahead for deep geothermal in the UK.
