Bude Energy Community
Bude Energy Community’s (BECO) aspiration was to help develop a sustainable energy future for Bude and surrounding parishes.
Using the EnergyFund Cornwall grant they were able to undertake:
- The commissioning of a feasibility and business case study into the prospects for community-owned renewable energy projects in the Bude Community Network Area.
- Registration of a Community Benefit Society, Bude Community Power (BCP), to develop community-owned renewable energy projects. The registration papers are with the FCA for approval.
- Communication and engagement with local communities through the issue of press releases, use of social media, publication of promotional materials, talking to local groups and stalls at local events.
BECo published the findings of their feasibility study which identified the potential for community-owned renewable energy in Bude area and surrounding parishes.
The technologies offering most potential in the near-term – roof-top solar PV, ground mounted solar PV and wind turbines – were incorporated into illustrative ‘get going’ business case scenarios for establishing Bude Community Power (BCP).
Any income from successful projects will be used to cover the costs of running BCP, pay community investors a fair return and support local community initiatives.
