BF Adventure – Wind-powered Adventures

Based in Penryn, Cornwall, BF Adventure are now able to provide adventure activities and educational opportunities for up to 50 more disadvantaged children per year, thanks to the installation of a single 10kW wind turbine which will save them £1,500 per year on their energy bills.

The community-owned turbine, developed by local energy power cooperative Community Power Cornwall and funded by Energyshare, EDF and a loan from the Green Cornwall revolving loan fund, has had a transformational impact on the day-to-day activities of the adventure centre by supplying over 34,000kWh of electricity to the site.

The Aircon 10 turbine now meets half of the site’s power consumption needs, and has enabled the team to install a 3-phase power supply, solving the activity centre’s supply issues of regular heating, hot water and power for equipment while enabling more funds to be focused on their supportive work.
